Sei Ki HeartTouch Emotional Bodywork: Working with Psychosis

Sei Ki HeartTouch Emotional Bodywork is rooted in Sei-Ki, Shiatsu and the Hara traditions of Japan and framed within Western Mindfulness science & Polyvagal Theory.
As well as facilitating personal transformation and self learning, this course explores the embodied foundations of co-regulation and care suitable for assisting people experiencing any level of distress including serious anxiety based disorders, complex trauma and psychosis.
I am inviting 6 experienced bodywork practitioners with or without personal lived experience of mental health issues to join me for this training focusing on working with people experiencing psychosis.
If we choose it can form the first stage of a longer multi-part training on working with psychosis.
Course content
Sei Ki HeartTouch Emotional Bodywork is a pragmatic adaption of Sei-Ki, founded by the late Akinobu Kishi, for working with people experiencing extreme emotional and mental distress.
The emphasis is on meeting people where they are at and maximizing the chance that a healthy resonance can be established with them whatever the level of trauma and possibly paranoia the individual may be experiencing.
This means that a big part of the training is about working on ourselves.
Our journey together will be one of returning to simplicity, to our original nature. Finding our relationship to the ground, our centre, our heart and opening the raw energy of the Hara.
As we nourish our life feeling and resonance with all that is, our capacity to share this with others through our presence & touch will come naturally and joyfully.
Over the workshop we will be developing our capacity to work with individuals in different ways.
The first way, when there is little spontaneous calling or katsugen coming out will naturally be more patterned. A simple emotional bodywork routine, just 'being together', which in itself, can be profound for people to share in.
At this level, it may also be possible to introduce techniques from other training such as Shiatsu or Chi Nei Tsang. Sei Ki HeartTouch is not closed to making use of techniques your body has learnt from other ways of working. What is important is that your body is doing it, not your 'head'.
We find our own 'style' in this work, there is no need to be imprisoned by my style or anyone else's, but they can help as inspiration.

The second level, when the resonance is stronger and you start to feel the body 'calling', naturally requires form to be dropped. You spontaneously follow the calling and meet it as best you can with the skills you are able to offer.
The touch may be soft and energetic or more 'physical' as one simply responds to the 'requests'. It may be possible to combine this with techniques still, though only in response to the felt sense that it is wanted.
The third level is when there is clear katsugen coming out, or the person is in an emotional process, however you see it.
You simply support the process, whether that be through giving zen-like space and support or spontaneously swimming with the person through their process in a 'shamanic-like' two-person katsugen. How this manifests will depend on your talents.
I will keep 'head learning' to a minimum, though there is a natural role for grounded, supportive listening and conversation in Sei Ki HeartTouch Emotional Bodywork.
You need the individual to take responsibility for their own recovery and to support them with practices to work with. The hara practices we learn through the course, double as recovery practices to share with clients.

Course objectives
Participants will enhance their capacity / be able:
- to enter resonance with those they touch
- to rest in empty presence and be there for others
- to feel their own Ki and that of the other
- to take care of themselves while 'giving' to others
- to strengthen and harmonise their Ki with daily practice
- to integrate Sei Ki HeartTouch into their professional therapy work in a way sensitive for people experiencing trauma & emotional distress including psychosis.
Our final goal is simply to come to a good feeling within ourselves, to open our hearts and share this warm feeling with those we meet in our lives.

Testimonials from experienced professionals attest to the transformative potential of this approach:
- - I loved the training. I would have liked to stay another day. It was so nice to practice for myself. I feel reconnected to my inner peace state. Good reminder that I can let my body decide how to move. Very inspiring for my professional work in 1:1 settings as well as in groups. I want to offer more Seiki in my Shiatsu work. Also I feel, it helps me to give Shiatsu easier/lighter (with less effort). I'm very inspired by your work!
- - Anthony was really engaging and down to earth with this workshop. There were plenty of practices to try out and opportunity to reflect. I learned a great deal which will inform both my own personal growth as well as my practice as a shiatsu practitioner.
- - This course helped me see the need to consider space. As a newly qualified Shiatsu therapist my instinct is to connect and enquire through touch, but this course opened my mind and body to the value of allowing space: to sit; to breathe; to be; before connecting.
- - Anthony is a very engaging and enthusiastic presenter, he has a deep, uncompromising love for his practice and an unstinting generosity in sharing his knowledge. His workshop has helped me to refresh my Qi-based practice and develop my understanding of this fascinating work. (Shiatsu Practitioner)

About Anthony:

I had my own journey first with anxiety, panic attacks and mild depression while in my final year at Cambridge University in 1991.
This continued during my work as a financial auditor, where I experienced chronic stress and then as a software programmer where I went into a meltdown of physical and mental fatigue. A serious breakdown / burnout.
Despite massive efforts to heal myself, this journey continued in 2001, with me entering non-ordinary states, we can say spiritual psychosis perhaps.
After an 8 month period in the psychiatric system, I came off anti-psychotic medications and took personal responsibility for my own well-being. This journey continued for the next 8 years with me going in an out of challenging non-ordinary states until I stabilised in 2010.
Over time I've become a qualified Mindfulness teacher, Tai Chi & Qi Gong teacher and have been teaching since 2015. I am also an experienced student of the late Akinobu Kishi , the founder of Sei Ki and teach his amazing touch therapy in my own way. I've spent twenty-five years exploring these fields with total dedication.
I found my own ways to recover and live a full life and now share what I learnt with others experiencing extreme states, trauma, broken nervous systems or simply chronic stress situations and misery.
